Responsibilities
Role:
As the Depop community continues to grow on a global-scale, the systems and cloud infrastructure behind our product must be intelligently designed and built to withstand peaks and troughs in demand.
As an Engineer on the core infrastructure team, you will play a key role in this effort. You'll focus on delivering high-value projects and ensuring the design and implementation of the next phase of our platform meet high standards with our users in mind. You’ll have the opportunity to make architectural decisions and drive improvements when better solutions are available. Our team values quick iteration and adaptation.
You'll use tools like AWS, Terraform, Kubernetes, Golang, and Python to build the next generation of our platform, enabling distributed ownership of services among engineers. Your work will help create a robust infrastructure platform that supports Depop’s goals.
Responsibilities:
Empower and Mentor Developers: Empower developers to take ownership of the operation, performance, and availability of our services, providing guidance and mentorship as needed.
Innovative Software Solutions: Design, write, and deliver software that enhances the lives of our engineers, improves scalability, and drives platform innovation.
Cloud Infrastructure Excellence: Define, secure, and optimise the cloud infrastructure that supports our platform, ensuring high availability and performance.
On-Call Participation: Take part in our on-call rota, providing critical support and ensuring service reliability.
Continuous Improvement: Drive a culture of continuous improvement—measure, automate, and iterate on processes and systems.
Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with cross-functional teams, including developers, platform engineers, and security experts, to align infrastructure with company goals and support seamless development and deployment of applications.
Security and Compliance: Adhere to and promote security best practices and compliance standards across all infrastructure and processes.
Qualifications:
Technical
Experience with Cloud, (AWS preferred) with defining, securing, and optimising cloud infrastructure that supports our platform, ensuring high availability and performance.
Good working knowledge of Continuous Integration/Deployment tools and practices.
Appreciation of distributed systems.
Care about writing clean, well-composed, and tested code.
Highly skilled in at least one language (ideally Python or Golang) and scripting (bash).
Strong knowledge of network infrastructure design.
Experience consuming RESTful web services.
A passion for security, reliability and scalability of deliverables.
Non-Technical

Demonstrates a good approach to continuous learning and improvement.

Desirable
An understanding of operating Postgres or another major RDBMS at scale.
Experience with Kubernetes.
Experience with other major HashiCorp projects (Consul, Vault).
Knowledge of modern Linux systems internals (kernel, filesystems, network stack, systemd).
Mentoring experience.

MyMode is composed of 3 working modes: Flex, Office Based and Remote.
Flex (Default)

Flex employees will be expected to work from the office at least 4 days per month. Teams will determine whether there are set weekly or monthly in-office days based on their operating rhythms and practices. You will need to work with your manager to determine your in-office schedule for your team.
Office Based

As part of taking on the Office Based working mode you will be able to apply for a permanent desk in the office if you need one, but you won’t need to apply to become an Office Based employee.
Remote
Tell me more +Show me less -Under the Remote working mode you are able to work anywhere within the country you are employed in. This mode requires around 2- 4 days per year in the office, depending on organisational guidance. You will be able to expense travel if you are asked to attend the office, but not for office attendance by your choice.
